Pros & Cons

  • The culture and the people. Everyone is super supportive and encouraging and always there to give a hand or answer any questions.
  • Inclusive, Promotive, Encouraging
  • I was attracted to the company since they are a Contractor. Every job is different which can make the work more interesting and more challenging.
  • Monos has covered course costs and materials, bicycle lockers, gym in the building at very low rate, reasonably active social club, subsidised Adventure World tickets for family fun day.
  • I was attracted to the company since they are a Contractor. Every job is different which can make the work more interesting and more challenging.
  • FIFO rosters aren't always ideal but necessary for site experience.
  • Can be a lot of responsibility when first starting as a grad
  • Since they are contractors, sometimes changes are inevitable. You get told that you're going to this site at this time but it can change at short notice.
  • Sometimes processes are not taught to the graduates and when given a new task it is expected of us to understand how to do it automatically.
  • Limited graduate support resources mean you need to be proactive and drive your own development

Culture
The culture can't be faulted. There is an emphasis on recruiting people with a team-first mindset. There is a common understanding that we are all there for each other for professional and personal purposes. Everyone respects one another irrespective of roles.

Diversity
I support my company's commitment to diversity. Unlike other organisations, the goals and direction are realistic, achievable and positive.

Satisfaction
Safety, quality, cost, environment & people all fall into my role as an engineer. On some days I may be required to supervise on-site, on others I am in the office or in meetings all day. Monadelphous has a lot of expectations for projects, regardless of the size so it takes up most of my time trying to enforce those standards. No day is the same and I learn a lot.

My current manager is very approachable and makes for a really good mentor. We often have discussions about my progression and he is always offering advice and support.

Office Work Environment
Managers have their own office and everyone sits in their assigned seat with a cubicle layout. The office is located right next to the city and located along with the food street hub so getting a meal is walkable so it's in a great location. The building has a gym, sauna and there are 2 cafes downstairs. Dress code is the company's polo shirts (not compulsory to be worn), however, it is smart casual attire. We have casual Fridays.

Recruitment
The interview process involved a few different online interviews with one face to face interview which was part of an Assessment Centre. My references were contacted as well. I’d say it was a thorough process.

Salary

Salary
As a grad, the pay is evaluated twice as often as for non-grads. Generally, staff renumeration is evaluated annually to keep up with inflation and the market. For grads, there is the additional consideration of your experience gained and this is reflected in the calculations. Pay is not my primary concern but I am more than happy that I am able to support my family and be recognised for my efforts.

Training

Training
Graduates have a passport with ~70 skills they want you to learn, which is helpful to guide what areas you need to work on. They've provided confined space and working at heights training, safety leadership training, and are very generous with AIM training courses on anything from accounting to project management to communicating. I've also got a Diploma in Environmental Management supplied through my previous project.

Work Hours
The hours change depending on the project. They are very flexible when I am based in the office as I am able to move my hours around based on my workload, personal commitments, etc.

The company is always looking for ways to reduce its environmental footprint, such as through its renewable energy sector.
