Management at Telstra

7.7
7.7 rating for Management, based on 58 reviews
How accessible are managers and do they make good mentors? You may want to address internal communication, performance feedback or praise and recognition.
My managers have been (on the whole) very helpful and supportive. They've given me opportunities to develop my skills and recognised when I've worked on good initiatives.

Plenty of mentors and support - however it is a large company so there are the occasional managers that are not of the same quality as others

I could definitely see my managers as mentors. They give great advice

My manager is the best manager I have ever had. No micro-management, great work, easy to get along with, good mentorship.
Midlevel, Melbourne - 22 Jan 2020
Incompetent and inexperienced management, especially at the graduate level.
Experienced, Melbourne - 22 Jan 2020
We're a large company so it's difficult to get personal, 1:1 time with the managers. However, in recent years, Telstra is making more of an effort to have our senior leaders create videos about what they're doing and how the organisation is progressing.

Obviously, this can depend on a case by case basis as each manager is different, but from my own experience thus far - they have all been great, super supportive and give recognition for the work that you do.

Great performance feedback at key milestones however lack of regular check ins.
Graduate, Newcastle - 22 Jan 2020
They're usually pretty accessible, but are often too busy to apply any real meaningful people leadership. If you have your own initiative to drive your own career, then it's fantastic because the lack of micro-management empowers people to do this.

Managers have been extremely receptive to engaging me in work that fits my strengths and is of interest. Furthermore, they are proactive in providing feedback on my performance.

My managers have been excellent and have really made it a priority to mentor me. I also have a separate mentor, this is encouraged. Both are great with feedback and advice.

All of my managers have had great soft skills, good communicators and have displayed a great wealth of knowledge and mentorship
Graduate, Brisbane - 21 Jan 2020
Line managers are usually doing the best they can. Middle and upper managements are too focused on short term objectives.

Managers tend to run fortnightly one-on-ones and are encouraged to discuss performance throughout the year. They are usually very supportive when it comes to any issues.
Midlevel, Melbourne - 21 Jan 2020
My manager personally is really good and really accessible. I on average speak to a member of the senior leadership team at least once a day

Depends on the managements. My personal manager is fantastic but upper management can come across as less than genuine.

Depending on your manager, some are very active while some are not.
