What is our Internship Program?
Our paid ten-week program is a great way to explore a career with Westpac Group and give you a taste of what it is like to work for us. It is designed to ensure that our interns get an insight into the banking and finance industry – allowing you to make an informed career decision. Whichever business area you choose, you will find a worthwhile investment of your time this summer. Plus, what could be more rewarding than the possibility to return to university with your graduate job offer in hand?
Am I Eligible?
We welcome applications from university students in their penultimate year of an undergraduate or post graduate degree that are due to complete their studies by December 2019. We also ask that all applicants hold Australian permanent residency or citizenship. The program runs for 10 weeks from December to February and talented interns will also have the opportunity to be considered for the Graduate Program in 2020.
What is Financial Markets and Treasury?
During your internship, you will have the opportunity to work closely with one or more of our Financial Markets and Group Treasury teams across a range of businesses including sales, trading, ecommerce, product & structuring and market strategy.
You will receive on-the-job training, including regular lunch and learn sessions from our product specialists, while contributing to business unit projects and assisting the team in managing client transactions or risk positions.
You will also benefit from a dedicated Graduate Manager who is a senior financial markets professional and responsible for your placement and learning programme during your internship. You will also have the support of a Placement Manager who will provide coaching and support for your on-the- job learning. We will also allocate you a buddy from one of the recent graduate programs.

Experience & exposure to different areas
Great opportunities for networking Flexible work hours Is customer focus and does live by its values
Very flexible working arrangements, good culture
level of administrative processes
The structure of the graduate program, requires a little more clarity.
A lot of technology work is outsourced.
Very few international opportunities. Time it takes to get things done, bureaucracy.
Guidance seems to depend more on the team you're in and the people around you than HR. The graduate program seems to be heavily dependent on the stream managers - with little involvement from the wider graduate HR group.
