Details

The Data School Down Under is a 2yr+ long immersion course where recruits are prepared for a career as a data analyst/data scientist and consultant.

The programme starts with 4 months of training where you'll be part of a small group in our dedicated classroom facilities in central Sydney. The broad curriculum prepares you for a career in the data analytics world as we'll teach you best practice techniques for storing, managing and presenting data using fast growing technologies. The Data School experience focusses on making you a guru in both Tableau, the market leading tool for data analysis and visualisation, and Alteryx, a leader in data preparation and transformation. We will also teach you the people and management skills you'll need for the workplace.

Following your 4 months, as a data school consultant you will be rotated through 4 x 6 month engagements with our blue chip partner organisations covering a diverse range of industries. At the end of your two year placement therefore, the data world will be your oyster. You can work for one of our partner organisations, or have an opportunity to continue permanently to work as a consultant on a range of fascinating projects.

Successful data school applicants will be offered a 28-month fixed term contract with The Data School Down Under with a starting salary of $50,000 per annum, rising over the placement period. We therefore can only accept applicants for this role who have a right to work in Australia.

The Data School Down Under is working in partnership with The Data School UK.

We look for people who can demonstrate their desire to learn. You don't need a particular degree or background to join The Data School.

We will offer 3 starting dates throughout the year: April, August, and December.

We do things differently at the Data School so forget about the application process for other jobs. We don't want to see your CV, we want to see your passion. So instead, find some data, create a viz, and share it with us along with a note telling us a little bit about yourself!

Our first intake is scheduled to start in August 2018 and we are taking applications for places at all times, so if you share the same inquisitive nature, have a passion for getting to the truth by way of data, then contact us here to register your interest and receive more information on submitting your application.

Pros and cons of working at The Data School AU

Pros

  • You get to help people reach their potential.

  • Support and learning opportunities.

  • Professional development - we are encouraged and given time to learn new things and pursue our passion

  • Where to start! The Data School is truly a company of its time: with a horizontal management structure, a culture rooted in knowledge sharing and learning, and a focus on making each of its employees an evangelist in the tools we use, everybody feels both valued and useful. If I had to pick one, however, I would have to say that the opportunities for growth and the general feeling that the company will do everything it can to prepare you for the future is what makes me love going to work every day.

Cons

    • It can feel a bit intense sometimes when there is a lot going on. But that's a tonne better than being bored I guess.

    • I don't get to see my coworkers as often as I would like.

    • Beer culture - drinking occurs every week which might put people that do not consume alcohol off.

    • I have to say that there really isn't much I don't enjoy about the company. There is a natural caveat to having a horizontally organized company, where everybody is a consultant working either from home or directly with clients: you have to put in the time to make sure you meet everyone and build ties with your mentors. However, I have found that I spend far more time with my colleagues relative to my friends who work in more traditional companies - a fact that shows how tightly knit we are.

    • Small growing business so lack of process for certain things.
