Application Process & Interviews at South32

6.9
6.9 rating for Recruitment, based on 7 reviews
Please describe the interview process and assessments.
Several stages of interview - online tests, phone interview, face-to-face interview
Graduate, Perth/Bunbury - 11 Oct 2017
Very stock standard interview and assessment process. The assessments the same as all the other graduate programs (Numerical, literacy and logical reasoning). The interview process was very good though. I was interviewed by a HR representative and a superintendent. The superintendent actually looked through my CV and ask me questions about what I had done in my previous roles, which was good as compared to other companies

Seemed vigorous but understandable

Phone interview, site interview
Graduate, Groote Eylandt - 24 Sep 2017
I did vacation work, followed by an outgoing interview. I interviewed for a graduate position following this, and had a medical assessment before an offer
Graduate, Collie - 20 Sep 2017
It might have changed but I first joined the company as a vacation student through the typical online tests, phone interview and then a face to face.

What questions were you asked in your interviews?
Behavioural style interview questions based around the values. (I was hired before the demerger therefore the question would have changed due to the demerger) However, one of my interviews (the superintendent) actually asked about my previous roles and took interest in what I have previously done which was actually something different.
Graduate, Perth, Western Australia - 11 Oct 2017
I thought the interview questions were pretty standard. Site interview was definitely targeting company values more than the phone interview.
Graduate, Groote Eylandt - 24 Sep 2017
Asked about my interests, what I wanted to do with my career and how I can contribute.

Do you have any specific tips and advice for candidates applying to your company? How would you recommend they best prepare?
Research company values and ethics, understand more than the specifics of the role - know the company and where it fits into the industry
Graduate, Perth/Bunbury - 11 Oct 2017
Tips: 1) Have a range of examples other than university exams when in the interview process. Think about your part time work, sports clubs etc. There is a lot of examples to give rather than ones of university examples 2) Be confident in yourself. 3) Prepare, Prepare, Prepare. Prepare your answers for a range of interview questions. Prepare answering them. Know about the company, what the company is doing on the ASX, financial statements, future plans etc. 4) Be yourself and smile.
