There are definitely some who still learning with how to deal with woman on site, there is always room for improvement. However, I have found that overall the company and subcontractors are quite respectful to woman. Women are definitely the minority out on site however, it is rare that you would be faced with any issues. You need to be reasonably tough skinned.

The construction industry is 95% male. Of which a large proportion is white. This can make it daunting for people outside of that majority to work in the industry. As a company I think we are more diverse than industry averages.

In construction it is tough to have 50/50 split in gender at the workplace. I do think that the company is conscious of this and try to have a well balanced team.

The company is aiming to improve diversity. The intake of graduates in my year was roughly 40% women and 60% men. This reflected the percentage of males and females that applied for the company. My Project Director for my project is very passionate about encouraging women in the industry, therefore throughout my team there are many young women which is great to see. Women in Senior Management is lacking however there are many young women coming through, so will have to wait a few years! Cultural Diversity still seems a little bit behind and something the company could work on.
