The Graduate Program is structured around building your abilities through rotations, learning and development opportunities and support. To learn and grow as much as possible during your time on the program it is essential that you are prepared to relocate.
Home to Australia's largest capability in the rail sector, the Rail Group undertakes projects in each state of Australia in urban, regional and remote desert environments. We deliver complex multi-discipline rail projects and specialist projects covering operations, construction, maintenance and renewals of track, signalling, overhead line, stations, structures and tunnelling in both live operational environments and greenfield sites.
As a Rail Graduate you will have the opportunity to get exposure to a wide range of rail projects covering all aspects of construction, stations, structures, tunnelling and maintenance in both live operating environments and greenfield sites. You may choose to specialise in several disciplines including track, structures, traction power, overhead wire, signalling and communication systems or rail systems.
This will see you working with the construction project teams and delivering a package of work in accordance with project specification, whilst ensuring the activities of subcontractors and suppliers are completed to schedule and cost requirements. This will involve procuring materials and services that comply with specifications, drawings and Environment standards, and understanding how to measure plan costs, efficiencies, yields and quality of product as directed. You will also develop the ability to read and understand plans, review design documentation to provide constructability review and implement final plans.

- Preferred Degree: Civil, Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering

The failure to be rotated through the graduate program to experience different projects. The lack of acknowledgement from John Holland for the hours and time committed to the job.
The lack of focus on emerging technologies
Some graduates were not allowed to rotate as often as stated in their graduate program brochure (6 months per rotation) Quality of teams differs from project to project
Working for a rail business means there is a need for night shifts, weekend shifts and long periods of long shifts. It is not all the time, but it is also not a rare occurrence.
Could be pigeon-holed or just become a number.
