Diversity at Department of Social Services

From what I've seen the Department has been very accommodating to women. There also appears to be a considerable amount of women and mothers in the department filling a variety of roles including management. The department seems to be very understanding if a mother has to leave to care for her child, or has to start/finish work at particular times because of her child's needs. The department does employ a very large portion of people from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, and I am aware of staff members who are from a LGBT background. All a treated with complete respect.

The Department has specific Indigenous recruitment programs. It also has disability provisions for recruitment including guaranteed interviews. There are diversity champions and committees and specific rooms for breast feeding and cultural purposes.

The grad programme theoretically only cares if you have a university undergraduate degree, but the vast majority of public servants are very upper middle class whitebread. However, speaking as someone who grew up "disadvantaged", having a good view from the ground up will make you a valuable employee for the department, especially when it comes to communication with the general public.

The department has policies and programs for various groups, including people with disabilities and indigenous traineeships.

It has numerous training and graduate programs to encourage applicants from interstate and a variety of backgrounds to enter the department.

There are programs but I am not sure of the details. It is not a massive priority.
