We recruit students that we believe have the potential and ambition to join us once their degrees are completed.
The internship program allows you to follow the life of a lawyer at Clifford Chance closely - you will sit in two different practice areas, working with our lawyers on real, live client projects. You will be treated as a part of our team and given opportunities to demonstrate your ability.
To ensure you get the most from your program we will assign you a mentor - an experienced lawyer who will help you settle in and answer any questions you have.
Across the program we will also host sessions from professionals across the firm to give you a real insight into how our firm works.
To be successful, you will need to demonstrate your potential to become a first-class lawyer and your willingness to take advantage of the many opportunities that you encounter.
You will need to exhibit ambition, drive and commitment, the ability to articulate your ideas clearly, and the desire to build relationships and deliver outstanding service.
We're also looking for business awareness, a keen commercial insight and a strong ability to lead and manage.
In addition to these attributes we ask that applicants have a consistently strong academic record.
In 2019 our Winter Internships will run as follows:
Program One: 1 July – 19 July
Note: Students participating in Program 1 will have the opportunity to visit our Hong Kong office and as such should be able to undertake short-term international travel in early-mid July.
Program Two: 2 September – 13 September
Note: Program 2 has been created primarily to allow UNSW students on the trimester schedule to participate in our Winter Internship program. Please do not apply for Program 2 if you are eligible to participate in Program 1.
Successful candidates will automatically be considered for our 2021 Graduate program, so a separate application is not necessary.

Law
Clifford Chance is a premier global law firm with 32 offices in 22 countries and a legal team recognised as being among the very best in the world.
Large network and well-resourced.
The people are extremely friendly and nice and very supportive which really helps when you have just started. The international aspect and ability to participate in an overseas secondment is also amazing.
Extremely interesting international arbitration work. Mobility between Clifford Chance offices / international secondment opportunities.
The experience. There are almost no other law firms in Perth that offer experiences on transactions and cases at the level that CC does. You constantly work with colleagues from other offices on matters for international clients of a far higher value and complexity than my colleagues at other Perth law firms. Further, the secondment opportunity that every graduate is offered is leagues more generous than any other Perth firm and is an incredible way to experience different work and working cultures and form connections with your colleagues in the wider network.
Travel opportunities, quality of work and people/culture of the team is friendly.
Small office in a network can sometimes be forgotten.
Business services are somewhat lacking.
The job requires sacrifice, the hours are very long (even comparatively with my colleagues at other Perth law firms). The length and unpredictability of the hours can sometimes be difficult to deal with.
Hours can be unpredictable and long (including weekend work).
As with any professional environment, there is a high level of expectations of graduates. Whilst this is not a bad thing, it can be challenging for some.
