Our Graduate Program is an 18-month development journey supported by world-class resources. As part of a global cohort, you will work on business challenges, contribute to technical projects and get access to some of our most senior leaders.
Our Graduate Program focusses on building technical skills through on-the-job learning and coaching from technical experts. With over 130 years in the industry, we have some of the most respected and talented professionals to learn from. In return, we ask you to be a self-starter to seek out and explore ways to see and learn how our operations work.
You will also work on business case challenges with other graduates across multiple disciplines from around the world. You will apply what you have learnt so far with us and utilise your network to solve a real business challenge and then present back to key stakeholders.
Throughout our Australian operations and corporate offices we have many opportunities for you to join our business.
We look for students with a range of degrees that include (but not limited) to:
- Technology: Data Science, Computer Science, Applied Statistics, Software Engineering, Mathematics
- Business: Accounting / Finance, Supply Chain, Logistics Management
- Engineering: Mining, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Mine Geotechnical, Civil, Metallurgy / Minerals Processing, Chemical, Construction, Environmental
- Health Science: Safety, Health, Occupational Hygiene, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Medical Radiation, Toxicology
- Science: Earth Science / Geology (Honours / Masters), Hydrogeology, Environmental, Physics, Chemistry, Spatial Science (Surveying)
Our Australian graduate opportunities for engineering and science will be residential or Fly-In-Fly-Out (FIFO) either way giving you the chance to support and live in a thriving local community. Roles such as Technology, Finance and Supply will support our operations from our city locations, but they are never far from the action.

Pros
The people I work with.
The culture is fantastic, it is a safe environment and you are able to bring up grievances without fear of retribution.
1. Plenty of opportunities and varieties of teams to work in, 2. Excellent remuneration (industry leading perhaps), 3. BHP invests in the graduates, many training opportunities and graduate events organized throughout the year.

Cons
Working away from home.
An adequate job description was not supplied and it was near impossible to contact anyone. This resulted in me entering a role where my current qualifications were not effective and has resulted in me leaving the company before the end of the graduate program.
Only negative is getting acclimatized to FIFO work hours and lifestyle (I have trouble sleeping in the camp beds for example).
Major corporation, under-resourced.
Very large company which MAY make some people feel like they get lost in the system. As a grad in my department, no choice or even input into rotations.
